Uncapped Argentine tighthead prop, Damián Arias has signed a one year contract to play for French club Dax in the Pro d2. The 22 year old from Tucumán had offers to join Agen and Biarritz in the Top 14 but opted instead to start his professional career in a place and at a level in which he is likely to recieve more game time and develop. In moving to France he will not be a part of the Plan de Alto Rendimento (Pladar or High Performance Plan) as he is set to move to France next week. Arias is a former Pumita, having played for the Argentine under 20 team in 2010.
Dax is looking to get back into the Top 14 after being relegated in 2009. The club came close to winning promotion back to the Top 14 only to lose a Pro d2 Semi Final in May. Dax is the form home of a number of Argentine players including Horacio Agulla, Federico Martín Aramburu and Nicolás Vergallo. Current Pumas Agulla and Vergallo began their professional careers at the club.
