Marcelo Loffreda to Coach the USA?

Former Argentine international centre, captain and coach, Marcelo Loffreda may be set to return to coaching. Whether it be in Argentina or abroad, Marcelo Loffreda wants to coach again. His last official match as head coach was the May 5, 2008, when the Leicester Tigers, at that time his team lost 26-16 to the London Wasps, in the final of the Guiness Premiership - todays Aviva Premiership. Despite coaching Leicester to the English club final and also the final of the Anglo-Welsh Cup, the Tigers opted to terminated its contract with Loffreda due to the teams failures in that seasons Heineken Cup. One week after the 2009 Guinness Premiership Final, Loffreda was unemployed.

Today, more than three years of the bitter episode, and listening to his heart, Tano is determined to return to the activity that gave so much joy. Until January Loffreda served as the National Director of the UAR´s High Performance Program UAR. His possible coaching return could be at the international level as one the third ranked side in the Western Hemisphere, the USA is in need of a new coach after Ireland´s Eddie O´Sullivan vacated the position in the weeks following Rugby World Cup 2011. Loffreda said to Argentine rugby source, http://www.scrum.com.ar/ that "about three weeks ago USA Rugby asked me to send a work project and I did."

His name is now been put in the hat to take the reigns of the USA Eagles with plans for qualification for Rugby World Cup 2015 just around the corner. Loffreda is in contest with a number of other big names to lead the USA to England 2015. The list includes Dave Hogg, Paul Keeler, John Kirwan, Nick Mallet, Matt Sherman and Mike Tolkin. The final decision as to who will be the USA Eagles´ coach will be made latter this month as Loffreda, himself, pointed out: "I was not aware of the full list. What I do know is that the election is to be held before Christmas, in about three weeks."

Loffreda has also been approached to coach elsewhere but has not stated where this would be or in what capacity. Should he return to coaching at international level and train the USA Eagles at England 2015 it would be his third campaign as a coach after coaching Argentina at Rugby World Cup 2003 in Australia and Rugby World Cup 2007 in France.
