Julio Farias Cabello elected Tucumán´s best sportsman

Julio Farías Cabello vs Scotland
2011 came and went like a dream for Argentine backrower, Julio Farías Cabello.  The 33 year old had returned to Argentina from France where he had been playing in the lower divisions. He was drafted into Argentina´s squad to tour Europe in November 2010 and he made his test debut vs France and then started the following week vs Ireland. At the ripe age of 32, Fariás had finally broken into the Los Pumas squad. Upon his return to Argentina, Argentina´s national coach, Santiago Phelan saw that he was fully integrated into the PladAR system which saw him contracted to play for Los Pampas XV in South Africa´s Vodacom Cup. From there the backrower was able to show his worth and he convinced Phelan that he had the goods and was selected for Rugby World Cup 2011 ahead of more familiar faces. He went on to score Argentina´s try vs New Zealand.

His fame in Argentina has increased significantly over the past twelve months and in his home town of Tucumán Farías Cabello has been rewarded at the highest level. The Pumas backrower won the award of Premio LA GACETA al Mejor Deportista del Año (Best Sportsman of the Year). in a ceremony in which he was the centre piece of an awards event honoring sportsmen in thirty-three different disciplines. The ceremony included members of the Executive Powers and Legislature, employees of the City Hall, authorities of sporting federations and presidents of clubs and institutions.
