Argentina´s best sporting moments of 2011

Adios Mario
So much for Argentina being a soccer dominated country. The round ball code is the number one sport in the country and across the region but it is certainly not the only sport of note played by Argentina at internaitonal level or followed by the people of the country. Following Rugby World Cup 2011 the tributes to Los Pumas continue to flow with the lattest to appear on youtube being a sporting video featureing the best moments in Argentine sport in the year of 2011. The video underlines the importance of rugby in Argentina. It is not a goal from the world´s top soccer player, Lionel Messi getting the attention but the determination and passion of Los Pumas.

The Argentine national team were eliminated at the Quarter Finals by the home team and eventual champions, New Zealand but they went down fighting. The video pays tribute to this as it illustrates not only tries but also the struggles players go through with losses, injuries and retirement. Such was the tournament for the team with the high moments of Lucas González Amorosino´s amazing try which took place in the same match as the low of Juan Fernández Lobbe´s knee injury which forced him out of the World Cup and out of rugby for six months. Rather than  focus on Leonardo Senatore´s linebreak which created Julio Fariás´ try vs the All Blacks the theme of the Quarter Final was Mario Ledesma who left rugby after playing in four World Cup´s and being 38 years old. He was substituted for Agustín Creevy in the 69th minute and left the field in tears knowing he would never again wear the Pumas shirt. His emotional post match interview is featured as it should be - as one of the biggest moments in the sporting year of 2011. Super Mario gave it his all and is the measure for all future Pumas forwards.
