Spain vs Uruguay - Preview

The Second and third highest ranked Spanish speaking countries, Uruguay and Spain will go head-to-head tommorrow in an international match in the Spanish capital of Madrid. It is Uruguay´s second match in Europe after Los Teros defeated Portugal 19-6 on Sunday in Lisbon. The result saw Uruguay returning to the World´s official top twenty in the IRB World Rankings which has the South American country ahead of both Namibia and Russia. Uruguay´s tour to Europe is its first for quite some time and the opportunity of winning two in a row in Europe is something that could have significant ramifications as Uruguay are in dire need of increased funding from the IRB. Whoever wins the match will rise in the IRB World Rankings but more importantly it is the start of preperation for the qualifying process for Rugby World Cup 2015 which will be hosted by England.

Spain´s scrumhalf, Pablo Feijoo will have the honour of playing his 50th international match as the veteran is continues to shine almost ten years after making his debut vs Romania in 2002 as a twenty year old. His pivotal partner is to be Charly Malie who is one of many players in the Spanish side to play professionally in France. Malie plays for Pro d2 side, Beziers. Fullback, César Sempere is also a professional who plays his rugby for the Northampton Saints in the Aviva Premiership. Uruguay has largely stuck with the winning formula from the side which defeated the Portuguese Lobos. Los Teros coach, Sebastián Piñeyrúa ahs made three changes with Jerónimo Etcheverry to start at fullback, Santiago Gibernau will play wing and Rodrigo Espiga will start in the backrow.

The match is scheduled to kickoff at 1pm on Saturday and is to be played at the Estadio de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Uruguay enter the match as favorites after having defeated Uruguay six days ago and should be too strong for the Spanish Lions.
