Whilst the star of the 2010 IRB Junior World Championships was Ignacio Rodríguez Muedra, the star for Argentina in the 2011 edition was Manuel Montero.
A tall winger at 6 foot 4 (1.93m), Montero possesses a good step and strong fend, as seen in the video below where he blisters through the Italian U20 defence, he also had a good match against the Baby Blacks (New Zealand U20's) nearly setting up a great try but just was fumbled at the end when he tried to offload to the hooker.
The 20 year old Pucurá winger has been a member of the Argentina Sevens side since 2010, and took part in the 2011 Pan-American games. Unlike some other nations where Sevens is mainly played by specialist Sevens players, the Argentina Sevens side is seen as more of a skills developer for the full game with several Sevens players graduating to the full Pumas side over the past few years.
Montero has been named in the Pumas High Performance Plan squad for 2012 which is basically a squad of the best Argentine players who still play in Argentina. This should very much boost his hopes of making the Pampas XV squad for 2012, which over the past two years has proved a big success and 21 players over the past two years have gone onto to get professional contracts in Europe.
