Nigel Owens to referee Argentina vs New Zealand Quarter Final

Controversial Welsh referee, Nigel Owens has been handed the tresponsibility of refereeing Sunday's Rugby World Cup Quarter Final match between Los Pumas and the All Blacks. The match will be played at New Zealand's largest stadium, Eden Park in Auckland and kicks-off at 20:30 local time. Owens was accused of being not up to the required standard by Samoan centre, Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu after his performance in last Friday's match between Samoa and South Africa. The Welsh referee controversially red-carded Samoan fullback Paul Williams and then yellow-carded Springboks captain John Smit. Neither offence merited a card. Owens' refereeing in general was not popular with the Samoans and Fuimaono-Sapolu went as far as accusing him of bias and racism.

The Quarter Final between hosts New Zealand and Argentina is to be the first clash between the teams since 2006. The last time the two sides met saw Argentina push the All Blacks to the limit as the South Americans almost scored a try in the final minute of play in a match won 25-19 by the New Zealanders in Buenos Aires.
