Matt Evans signs for the Cornish Pirates

Canadian international utility back, Matt Evans is to play in England after the 23 year old signed a contract with English second division side, the Cornish Pirates. His move to England comes a year after he signed for Welshside the Newport Gwent Dragons. His time with the Dragons did not go as good as he would have desired as some below par performances saw him dropped and he was unable to recover. He was signed by the Welsh side after impressive form for Canada in the 2010 Churchill Cup but was unable to transfer this form in Europe. His performances for Canada in 2011 were also not as good as they were in 2010 with Evans unable to secure the flyhalf or fullback position for his country. Evans played two matches at Rugby World Cup 2011, both as a replacement in Canada´s matches vs Japan and New Zealand.

His move to the Cornish Pirates will see him team up with USA international inside centre, Andrew Suniula who has joined the club following the completed of the USA Eagles´ involvement at the Rugby World Cup. before joining the English side, Evans is to play for Canada in Guadalajara, Mexico at next weekends Rugby Sevens event at the Pan American Games. Evans is likely to become the starting fullback for the Cornish Pirates, a team the 16 tiem capped international played against last season in a match for the Dragons. He is set to arrive at then club on November the 2nd.
