Juan Martín Hernández returns for Racing Metro

The star flyhalf of Rugby World Cup 2007 is to make his return to the playing field on Friday evening for Parisian club Racing Metro in the French Top 14. Juan Martín Hernández missed Rugby World Cup 2011through injury after he suffered ligament damage to his knee in a Top 14 match seven months ago vs the now relegated Bourgoin. He underwent surgery and a rapid physiotherapy program with the intention of being fit and ready for New Zealand 2011 but time was not on his side. Upon announcing that he would not play for Los Pumas this year he alsio made it clear that he was looking ahead to the 2012 Four Nations rugby tournament which will feature Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa playing in home and away matches. His target is clear but he needs plenty of game time to return to the El Mago of old after suffering three years of serious injuries. He will be in direct compeition with a number of strong performing Argentine players in the Top 14 including three who were in the Los Pumas squad for New Zealand 2011 - Felipe Contepomi (Stade Français), Santiago Fernández (Montpellier) and Nicolás Sánchez (Bordeaux-Begles).

Hernández´s first assignment is to be against Bordeaux-Begles in Bordeaux on Friday and his come back has been simplified as he has been named at fullback rather than flyhalf. Fullback is the position in which Hernández made a name for himself while dominating the French league for Stade Français. After publicly declaring a preference to switch to flyhalf, El Mago continued his career in the 10 shirt and was the stand out performer in Stade Français´ 2007 Top 14 championship victory. Hernández is to be the only Puma in the Racing Metro lineup as tighthead prop Juan Pablo Orlandi has not been selected. Alvaro Galindo misses the match through injury while Juan Imhoff joined the club this week and is likely to feature in matches in the coming weeks for the club.
