2015 Pan American Games to have Womens Rugby

The official site of the 2015 Pan American Games, http://www.toronto2015.org/, has confirmed that the Toronto Games are to include womens rugby in four years time. In 2015 Canada´s largest city, Toronto will host the Pan American Games with the Gold Medal winning mens teams from the 2011 Games in Guadalajara, Mexico looking to not only repeat their accomplishment on home soil but also have the womens side win gold too. The Toronto games loom as being of vital importance to rugby in the Americas and around the globe as it is to be the largerst event of its kind before the 2016 Olympic Games which are to be take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Brazilian womens side realistically have a chance at a Bronze medal or better at the Pan American Games with the USA womens side likely to be favorites for Gold and Canada for Silver.

Toronto 2015 is yet to confirm the venue for the Rugby Sevens section of the Pan American Games but there is a strong possibility that Fletcher´s Field Rugby Park located in North-Eastern Toronto host the event. The message that the inclusion of women´s rugby sends to the IRB is that the sport is taken incredibly seriously in the Americas and this only goes to further underline Argentina 2023´s importance with the Americas never having hosted a Rugby World Cup and Argentina being amongst the best rugby nations on the planet.
