Try Ignacio Corleto vs France - 4 Years On
Four years ago to the day was history being made as France hosted Argentina to open Rugby World Cup 2007. It was organized with the intention of giving the hosts a balanced schedule as they pool clash with Ireland was thought of as being the toughest of the pool. Argentina had been preparing for the encounter for a long time, over four years and had their best ever team which was packed with players based in France. In the starting lineup seven players came from the two French clubs who contests ths 2007 Top 14 final which Stade Français won aftwer defeating Clermont.
Despite Argenitne looking better from the start, it was not until fullback Ignacio Corleto scored in the 28th minute of play that the French team and fans at the Stade de France seemed to appreciate just what they were in for as Argentina powered to a 14-3 lead. No more tries would be scored in the match as Argentina went on to win 17-12. The five point win was down to Corleto´s try which changed the script entirely from what fans and rugby media had expected as Argentina´s run to win the Bronze medal began by shocking France in Paris.
