Gonzalo Tiesi fit and ready

After failing to recover in time from a shoulder injury to play for Argentina in the sides Rugby World Cup warm-up fixtures vs the CONSUR XV and Wales, Gonzalo Tiesi has recovered and is fully fit in time to prepare for Argentina´s opening match of New Zealand 2011, vs England. It has been a case of deja vu for the Pumas centre after he was set to be Argentina´s 13 for Rugby World Cup 2007 before being injured in the warm-up phase and not beibng ready in time to face France. This time around he was injured during the latter rounds of the French Top 14, in May, when playing for Stade Français and in his place Argentina have been playing Marcelo Bosch.

Tiesi is the only specialist outside centre in the Argentine squad of 30 players in New Zealand. The side features players who can play 13 but in a makeshift capacity. Bosch, for instance, os naturally a flyhalf who can play fullback and inside centre. He played the majority of the 2010-2011 season at outside centre for Biarritz as the club needed him to fill a void. The squad also includes Agustín Gosio who is a winger who can play in both centre positions too. He is in the squad for his versatility and is not going to feature for Argentina vs England on Saturday. Tiesi should be the teams 13 and is the best defender of the three players. His inclusion in the starting XV would be great news for all Pumas fans.
