Argentina Players in England - Leicester Tigers
The Leicester Football Club, commonly known as the Leicester Tigers, is the most successful team in the history of English rugby. The club has won the Aviva Premiership five times in the professional era and the Heibneken Cup twice. It is one of only four teams to never have been relegated to Englands second division and, remarkably, have never finished lower than sixth place in the regular season. It thereforwe comes as no surprize that the Leicester Tigers are considered as the giants of English rugby and that the side is packed with international players currently competiting at Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand. The current English coach, Martin Johnson, captained England to World Cup glory in 2003 and was also a captain of the Leciester Tigers. Of the World Champion 2003 side, seven players were from Leicester - Martin Johnson, Neil Back, Martin Corry, Ben Kay, Lewis Moody, Dorian West and Julian White. Lewis Moody has since lmoved to play for rival club Bath and is Englands captain.
The Leicester Tigers play its home matches at Welford Road Stadium, which has a history dating back to 1892. It is one of Englands best rugby sadiums and is to host matches during Rugby World Cup 2015 which will be played in England. The stadium has a current capacity of 24,000 but is in the process of being renovated and will fit 30,000 come 2015. The new stadium is already well underway with the new northern stand, known as the Caterpillar Stand, having opened in 2009 and providing the club with the best club-owned stadium in England. Upon completion, the new Welford Road will be one of the best rugby stadiums on the planet. The venue is regularly packed to capacity.
The club is packed with international players currently competing at New Zealand 2011. Of the eleven international players serving their country´ three players are from Argentina. Pumas Horacio Agulla is playing his second Rugby World Cup after being an unknown four years ago in France and scoring Argentina´s second try of the match vs Ireland. Following France 2007 Agulla moved to play for Dax in the French Top 14 before then joining Brive. He arrived in Leicester for the 2010-2011 season and by the end of the season was the teams first choice right winger for both Aviva Premiership and Heineken Cup matches. Pumas loosehead prop, Marcos Ayerza has continuously been referred to as the best loosehead prop in England for the past five years. He has won multiple Aviva Premiership titles with Leicester and, like Agulla, is playing his second Rugby World Cup currently. Ayerza´s frontrow partner at Leicester with Argentine born Italian international tighthead prop, Martín Castrogiovanni. the Italian international is key to his teams chances and the do-or-die clash with Ireland will require him to be on his game if the Italians are to make history. The clubs captain is Irishman, Geordan Murphy who may face Castrogivanni. Winger Alesana Tuilagi has been the clubs left winger for several seasons and is key to Samoa´s Rugby World Cup campaign. Five Leicester players are in England´s squad with Dan Cole, Louis Deacon, Tom Croft, Ben Youngs, Toby Flood and Manu Tuilagi all part of the sides attempt to win back the William Webb Ellis Trophy. Outside centre Manu Tuilagi is from Samoa and is the younger brother of Alesana Tuilagi. he plays for England after having moved to the country as a teenager.
