USA squad named for Rugby World Cup

The USA Eagles Head Coach, Eddie O’Sullivan, has named his final list of thiry players to represent the United States of America at Rugby World Cup 2007. The USA Eagles are to depart for New Zealand on September 01, eight days before the start of the tournament and will play its first match on September 11th vs Ireland in New Plymouth. They are in Pool C which aside from Ireland also includes Russia, Italy and heavyweights, Australia who are expected to make the Final which is to be played on October 23. The players will get together in Santa Barbara, California on September 28 for a final camp on US soil before departure.

The squad features ten players who played at the last Rugby World Cup, four years ago in France. Of the survivors, six players are forwards including captain Todd Clever, fellow backrowers Lou Stanfill and Iñaki Basauri as well as secondrwoer John van der Giessen and props Mike MacDonald and Mate Moeakiola. The four returning backs include vice-captain Mike Petri, centre Paul Emerick, fullback Chris Wyles and winger Taku Ngwenya. In total O’Sullivan has gone for a combination of 16 forwards and 14 backs. The squad includes four props, three hookers, three secondrowers, six backrowers, two scrumhalves, two flyhalves, four centres, four wingers and two fullbacks.
