Robbie Shaw to play in Wales for Scarlets

28 year old USA scrumhalf, Robbie Shaw has been training in Wales with the Llanelli based side, the Scarlets on a pre-season trial and is to play for the Western-Welsh franchise in the RaboDirect Pro 12 (Celtic League) in the upcoming season. With Welsh international scrumhalf, Martin Roberts, leaving the Scarlets to play in England for the Northampton Saints and Tavis Knoyle possibly out of the early season matches due to Rugby World Cup 2011, Shaw will compete with Gareth Davies and Lee Williams for the Scarlets number 9 shirt.

Robbie Shaw is a part of a 36 man USA Eagles training squad, of which 30 will go to New Zealand for Rugby World Cup 2011. He played last season in the English second division for Bristol and was a fan favourite at the club. He has played two international matches for the United States of America, both in June 2008.  He is in competition with Mike Petri and Tim Usasz for a place at Rugby World Cup 2011, the pair having played international rugby this month in home and away matches vs Canada.

  1. Robbie Shaw has now signed for Leeds in the RFU Championship

do you know whether any clubs want Mike Petri? I think he's quite good and thought it was unfaird he didn't get a chance at Sale or Dragons last season
