Iñaki Basauri to play for Périgueux

USA international forward, Iñaki Basauri, is to play in France after Rugby World Cup 2011. The Mexican born backrower´s move to Périgueux represents a return to the pro d2 after he previously played for Marmande, Agen and CA Lannemezan from 2007-2010. His most recent professional team, however, was Italian as he played the 2010-2011 season with L´aquila in the Campionato Nazionale Eccellenza. His first experience of professional rugby, however, came in 2006-2007 for Massy in the Fédérale 1. In joining Périgueux, Basauri is to play alongside Argentine international centre, Horacio San Martín who is also joining the club from Italy after having played last season for Aironi.

Basauri has played twelve test matches for the United States Eagles and is set to play more as he will play in New Zealand 2011 in what is to be his second Rugby World Cup. He played in two of the USA´s four matches at France 2007 as he came on as a replacement against both Tonga and South Africa. Most recently he played vs Canada in the two matches this month.
