Horacio San Martín signs for Périgueux

After playing last season in Italy with Magners League side, Aironi, 29 year old Argentine centre, Horacio San Martín, will be playing his rugby in France for the new season. He has signed a contract to play in France´s second division, the pro d2, for Périgueux. His move to France is to be his third professional contract but his first in France and underlines the increasing importance of the pro d2 as it continues to attract more players of international standard. Périgueux is back in the pro d2 after winning promotion from the Fédérale 1.

San Martín made his international debut for Argentina against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in November 2009 as a secondhalf replacement. Like many players at the time, San Martín, got his international call up following impressive performances playing Rugby Sevens for Argentina. He was drafted in to fill the void left by a large number of players unavaliable through injury. The following week he was on the bench again as Argentina took on Scotland at Murrayfield and he again came on as a secondhalf replacement. He was included in Argentina´s squad for the home tests in June 2010 and also the training squad for Rugby World Cup 2011 but will not make the squad for New Zealand 2011 after he was left out of the squad that trained in Pensacola, Florida.

  1. good signing, San Martín will be good at ProD2 level, I heard he did quite well in his brief spell at Aironi so he deserves a professional contract
