Genaro Fessia replaces Alvaro Galindo for Rugby World Cup

Argentina have been forced into making a chance in the backrow for the Pumas squad to play in New Zealand 2011. Racing Metro backrower, Alvaro Galindo picked up a thigh injury playing in the Top 14 Semi Final vs Montpellier. The injury complicated his preperation for the Rugby World Cup but he had recovered from it and was selected in the squad for the tournament which starts in New Zealand in ten days time. Coach Santaigo Phelan had monitored his recovery and was satisfied enough to include him in the squad but, in the end, he will miss Rugby World Cup 2011 after suffering a serious injury to his bíceps on Sunday. The injury means Racing Metro will have no Pumas at Rugby World Cup 2011 after flyhalf Juan Martín Hernández was unable to recover in time from knee surgery and prop Juan Pablo Orlandi was left out of the squad.

In place of Galindo, Santiago Phelan has selected Córdoba´s Genaro Fessia who was widely expected to be included in the squad but was left out in favor of Julio Farias of Tucumán who played in the backrow for Argentina vs Wales int he recebnt international match in Cardiff. Fessia has been a regular player under the reign of Santiago Phelan playing matches against England, Ireland, Italy, France, Scotland and Uruguay. He made his test debut in 2007, with Marcelo Loffreda as coach, vs Ireland in Santa Fé in a match which Los Pumas won 22-20 following a late dropgoal to Felipe Contepomi. Fessia, just last week, signed for Aviva Premiership club, London Wasps to play as a professional player in England´s top flight competition. He made his debut for the club vs Itraly´s Benetton Treviso in a pre-season warm-up fixture on Saturday.
