Montpellier 2010-2011 Season Tribute

The home of three Pumas players, Montpellier Hérault Rugby Club, had its best ever season of rugby, finishing second in the Top 14 after going down 15-10 to Toulouse in the final at the Stade de France. Montpellier had been regular mid-lower table performers until 2010-2011 yet did have a number of international players such as French regulars François Trinh-Duc and Fulgence Ouedraogo. The team always had potential but it was not until the arrival of a new coach, Fabien Galthié that the team were able to match it with the best. Galthié had been an assistant coach for Argentina from November 2008 until taking up the head coaching position with Montpellier in early 2010 which saw him take control of the club for the 2010-2011 season on a three year deal. The club had young Pumas prop Juan Figallo but Galthié bought two others with him. International centre or flyhalf, Santiago Fernández from Buenos Aires who had been a starter at international level in place of injured regulars and the uncapped Argentine winger or fullback, Martín Bustos Moyano from Córdoba.

All three players secured their places in Montpellier´ps starting XV in quick time and would go on to play the entire season for the club, including the Top 14 barrage, semi final and Final. Bustos Moyano was the teams goalkicker and Figallo the scrum general. Fernández was also used at flyhalf when Trinh-Duc was unavaliable due to international duty for France. The trio are all a part of the Pumas training squad currently in Pensacola, Florida preparing for Rugby World Cup 2011 as are three further players who have signed to join Montpellier after New Zealand 2011. Bustos Moyano will be joined by Lucas González Amorosino in the back three and Juan Figallo will have pumas hooker Agustín Creevy and tighthead prop, Maximilano Bustos to join him in the frontrow. The French Top 14 runners-up will look to go one better next season and will dbut in the Heineken Cup.
