Harlequins resign Benjamin Urdapilleta
English club the Harlequins have resigned Argentine flyhalf Benjamin Maria Urdapilleta for a further season after the former CUBA flyhalf arrived at teh club this season on a one year deal. His contract extention will see him stay at the London club with Pumas first choice right winger, Gonzalo Camacho and uncapped Argentine secondrower Tomás Vallejos. Camacho is a certainly for Rugby World Cup 2011 while Vallejos stands a good chance of being included after he took part in the recent Pumas training camp in Paris while capped internationals such as Esteban Lozada did not. Urdapilleta did not feature because of Argentina´s extensive resources in the side backs. He, nonetheless, has made one international appearance for Argentina as a replacement vs South Africa in 2008 and despite not securing a lot of game time for the Quins, has been improving while in England.
Capable of playing flyhalf or inside centre, Urdapilleta is likely to get much more game time next season and with Argentina entering the expanded Tri-Nations the young flyhalf will have a great oportunity to impress national selectors. They should indeed be keenon following his career at Harlequins as he is aged ten years younger than Felipe Contepomi who at 34 will captain Los Pumas in New Zealand 2011. Urdapilleta looms as a potential replacement alongside the French based duo of Marcelo Bosch and Santiago Fernández with Juan Martín Hernández playing at flyhalf.
