Córdoba are Argentina Champions

Los Dogos of Córdoba are the 2011 Argentina Champions after defeating Buenos Aires 18-16 in the final of the Campeonato Argentino on Saturday. Former Italian international flyhalf, Ramiro Pez was the difference as he kicked all of Córdoba´s points to give Argentina a new champion and leave Las Águilas to think about 2012. The match was not a veru attacking one as both teams sized each other up and pints, as a result, came from penalties. The games only try was scored by Alejandro Galli of Buenos Aires which Suffern Quirno converted which put Buenos Aires in front at 13-12 but it would be the only time of the match that Buenos Aires led as Pez shortly thereafter slotted a penalty as Córdoba drove the intense game home. Buenos Aires did look to its speedy backs but it was not to be.

Los Dogos were crowned 2011 Champions, the teams second title in three years which is further evidence of the sport in Argentina not being dominated by the country´s capital and largest city, Buenos Aires. Los Pumas have players from across Argentina with cities such as Córdoda, Rosario, Mendoza, Tucumán and Salta all certain to have players in in Los Pumas squad for New Zealand 2011. The growth of the domestic game in the country also suggests that the potential of Argentina successfully promoting a Rugby World Cup to its population is real and a work waiting to happen.
