Toronto secures Canada vs USA in August

For the first time ever BMO Field in Toronto will host Canada vs the USA in what is a warm-up fixture for Rugby World Cup 2011. It is to be the first ever international rugby match played at the venue and is to be Canada´s only home fixture of the season as the Churchill Cup will take place in England and traditional Novemebr matches will not take place due to 2011 being a Rugby World Cup year. The match will take place on August 6th and will kick-ff at 14:00 local time. Toronto has previously hosted three international matches between Canada and the United States, most recently in 1999 when the United States won 18-17 at Stanley Park. The option of Rugby Canada of utilizing BMO Field is a sign of the growth of rugby as a marketable sport in Canada as the 22,000 capacity field is significantly larger than that of Stanley Park for the 1999 fixture.

It is a great opportunity for local fans to witness a high profile rugby match involving two teams who are targeting multiple wins at New Zealand 2011. Canada will be targetting wins over Tonga and Japan to obtain automatic qualification for England 2015 while for the USA nothing less than a victory over Russia will be acceptable. The fixture in Toronto will give both teams the opportunity to prepare for the Rugby World Cup and will certainly be watched by all teams competing in Pool A and Pool C in New Zealand.
