Earlier in the week Canadian international Daniel van der Merwe has signed a new two year contract with Scottish club the Glasgow Warriors who play in the Magners League and Heineken Cup. van der Merwe is currently in his second season of a two year deal with the club and is the teams leading try scorer and the second highest try scorer in the Magners League. His place in the Scottish side is ahead of local players which underlines the quality of the Canadian.
van der Merwe has been a mainstay and standout player in the Canadian test side ever since replacing winger Justin Mensah-Cooker in the lead up to Canada´s first match at France 2007. van der Merwe took the bull by the horns in putting on a solid performance against Wales which saw him become a first choice player for Canada and since then his place has been untouchable. Since then he has been moved from wing to outside centre and it has proven to be highly successful and has given Canada much more options. he is certain to be one of Canada´s most dangerous players in New Zealand 2011 and his time at Glasgow will be key for his teammates as Canada look to knock over Tonga and Japan.
