Sevens USA vs England from March 2010

With only one day to go before Las Vegas takes centre stage as Sin City hosts the 2011 USA Sevens. The home side has been bolstered by the return of Paul Emerick whose contract with Irish province, Ulster has ended. Emerick has long been a key performer for the USA in both Sevens Rugby and for the USA Eagles too. At the 2010 Adelaide Sevens event in Australia, Emerick was instrumental in seeing his side defeat England in a Pool match which saw England fail to make the Quarter Finals as they missed out on finishing as one of the groups top two sides. He set up Kevin Swiryn for a first half try and asisisted in creating a try for Matt Hawkins. Both Emerick and Swiryn attracted the attention of professional clubs with Emerick signing a short term contract with Ulster and Swiryn signing to play in the Top 14 for Agen.

The match result was a 24-21 victory to the USA which set them on track for a highly successful tournament in which the North Americans made the final after knocking over eilte opposition. The USA defeated Wales 12-10 in the Cup Quarter Final before pulling off an impressive 28-12 win over Argentina in the semi final. The USA were out of gas for the final, however as 2010 IRB World Series Champions, Samoa defeated the USA 38-10 in the final. The two sides will face each other in Las Vegas this weekend in Pool D which also includes Japan and South Africa. Can the USA repeat their heroics from Adelaide in 2010 and finish in the Top two of the group?
