Horacio San Martin Signs for Aironi
Italian side Aironi have signed Argentine centre Horacio San Martin for the remainder of the current season. His contract starts with immediate effect and will see him play in the Magners League and the Heineken Cup. He is joining the Italian outfit from Argentine club Tala Rugby Club in Córdoba. San Martin will be joining four other Argentine players at the club who thus far are yet to win a match this season - which is their debut season. His services are required to get some attack in the backs as San Martin is a positive playing centre. It will be his second time playing in Italy after playing in Serie A for Amatori Catania in 2007-2008.
The 28 year old made his debut for Los Pumas off the bench vs Wales in Cardiff in November 2009. He got the call up to fill in for a group of injured players that included Felipe Contepomi, Marcelo Bosch and Juan Martin Hernandez. San Martin missed all six of Argentina's tests in 2010 due to the avaliability of other players but was part of Los Jaguares in their successful series of matches this year. The former Argentina Rugby Sevens star will now have a great opportunity to press for a place in the Pumas squad for Rugby World Cup 2011 as Argentina presently went the entire year with no backup player to Gonzalo Tiesi for the 13 shirt. He will be fighting over the seemingly one remaining centres spot in the squad for New Zealand 2011 with the likes of Federico Martin Aramburu (Glasgow, Scotland), Miguel Avramovic (Agen, France) also in contention.
