Felipe Contepomi returns to form as Toulon win big in the Heineken Cup
After a forgetable set of performances for Argentina in last months autumn internationals vs Italy, France and Ireland Pumas captain Felipe Contepomi produced an outstanding performance for French side Toulon in the Heineken Cup vs English side London Irish at the Stade Mayol in Toulon. Contepomi scored 18 points including an impressive individual try which saw him sidestep his way past three defenders. Toulon won 38-17 and their five try to two victory has put Toulon in control of the pool. It means Toulon are now in first place of Pool 3 after Ospreys defeated Munster 19-15 in Swansea. Toulon will host Munster in their next Heineken Cup match on January 14 at the Stade Mayol. One week latter the Ospreys will host Toulon at Liberty Stadium in Swansea.
Argentine players have been having a great weekend in the Heineken Cup and the Amlin Challenge Cup this weekend with strong performances from Pumas players and Argentine players involved in virtually every match. Pumas centres Marcelo Bosch and former London Irish centre Gonzalo Tiesi both scored tries in their teams victories on Thursday. Both players are certain to be included in the Pumas squad for Rugby World Cup 2011 alongside Felipe Contepomi. Whilst former Pumas centre Miguel Avramovic also scored a try for Agen in the teams win in the Amlin Challenge Cup. Avramovic has been overlooked by Pumas selectors in recent years.
