The 2010-2011 World Series Sevens Rugby began this weekend in Dubai with sixteen countries involved in a two day tournament. Reigining World Series Champions, Samoa were defeated in the final by England which gave the English 24 points to top the ladder after round one. Behind them sit Samoa on 20 and the defeated finalists of Fiji and New Zealand both on 16. The English won despite getting off to a slow start in losing to Portugal on day one. The Dubai tournament is the first of eight legs which include tournaments held in South Africa, New Zealand, USA, Hong Kong, Australia, England and Scotland. The winner will be the team with the most points following the final tournament.

The Americas had two teams competiting in Argentina and the United States who were together in Pool B alongside New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Argentina had a poor first day losing 24-14 to Zimbabwe, 24-19 to the United States and 24-19 to New Zealand. In addition to defeating Argentina, the United States knocked over Zimbabwe 28-12 which meant they finished second in the pool to advance to the Cup Quarter Finals but they were defeated 38-5 by Samoa. Argentina, on the other hand had the chance to make up for their first bad turnout on the first day in a Bowl Quarter Final. They faced  Kenya and scored a massive 43-0 win before moving on to defeat Russia 31-7 in the Semi Final which set up a rematch with Zimbabwe. The South Americans were far better this time around, winning 26-0 vs the Africans. Argentina will go into the South African tournament in Georgia on 4 points and the USA on 6.
