The surprize package of this seasons French Top 14, Montpellier, look certain to host a Quarter Final in this seasons Amlin Challenge Cup in Europe as the mediterranean team remain undefeated in Pool 3. On Thursday night at home, Montpellier hosted fellow French side, Bourgoin and notched up a comfortable 39-14 victory at their custom built rugby stadium - the Stade Yves-du-Manoir.
Bourgoin started off the better side with winger Ratu Nasiganiyavi scoring an early try after uncapped Argentine wing Martín Bustos Moyano had given Montpellier a 3-0 lead following a penalty goal. Nasiganiyavi´s try was converted by uncapped Argentine centre Matias Viazzo to give the visitors a 7-3 lead in the 9th minute. Pumas flyhalf / inside centre Santiago Fernández put Montpellier back in the lead in the 15th minute as he crossed for a try which Bustos Moyano converted to make it 10-7. Bourgoin scored next with a penalty try which Viazzo converted to give the visitors a 14-10 lead. They would, however not score again in the match.
Martín Bustos Moyano kicked three penalties to put Montpellier ahead by 5 points at 19-14 in the 41st minute before he scored a try himself in the 47th minute to open up a 10 point gap. Montpellier managed two further tries through backrower Marc Giraud and hooker Joan Caudullo. Bustos Moyano scored a total of 21 points. USA international centre, Seta Tuilevuka, also played for the winners as he continues to grow as a player and looks like being a potentially game breaking player for the USA Eagles at Rugby World Cup 2011. Bustos Moyano must surely be in the plans of Los Pumas selectors despite being uncapped.
The victory means Montpellier are eight points ahead of the second played Exeter Chiefs in Pool 3. Montpellier will travel to Bourgoin to play on December 18 at the Stade Pierre Rajon. Exeter will play Newcastle in two matches - one this weekend and the other next weekend.
