La Tablada win la final del Torneo del Interior 2010
The La Tablada club of Argentina's second largest city, Córdoba won the country's interior championship (Torneo del Interior) by defeating the Cardenales club of Tucumán 25-18 last saturday. La Tablada had former Italian test flyhalf, Ramiro Pez, in their team and with his flawless goal kicking and also a drop goal to score a personal total of 20 points as the former European professional ensured his side would win the Torneo del Interior and enter the Quarter Finals of the Nacional de Clubes (National Club Finals) 2010 and have an easier match than Cardenales.
The result means that as winners of the Torneo del Interior, La Tablada will go up against Belgrano Athletic, the fourth placed side from the URBA Top 14 in a Quarter Final match this coming saturday. As runners up of the Torneo del Interior, Cardenales will face URBA Top 14 third placed side, Hindú Club, in another Quarter Final also on saturday. The remaining two Quarter Finals will be contested by URBA Top 14 champions, San Isidro Club (SIC), who will host the 2009 Nacional de Clubes champion, Duendes Rugby Club and the fourth will be URBA Top 14 runners up, La Plata vs Santa Fe Rugby Club in La Plata.
In the seventeen year history of the tournament, SIC and Hindú Club share the record for the most championship victories with four titles each.
