Canada Squad Anounced for November European Tour

With a chance of closing the year 2010 off on a high and making it a highly successful year of 6 wins and 1 loss, Canada will be looking for nothing less than a clean sweep of four wins from their November 2010 tour of Europe. It will include matches against four different teams that Canada has never lost against but three of which have competed at Rugby World Cup's and all have professional players playing in France's premiership rugby, the Top 14. Portugal have played Canada only once whilst Georgia have twice. Neither Belgium nor Spain have ever played against Canada.

The squad includes five uncapped players who have all gotten the call up following good performances in the Canadian Rugby Championship and the subsequent Americas Rugby Championship. The new players are Mitch Gudgeon, Jeremy Kyne, Jamie Mackenzie, Taylor Paris, Jon Phelan and the impressive 20 year old flyhalf Connor Braid. It also includes a number of European professionals who are doing well, most notably the Glasgow pair of Kevin Tkachuk, who scored a try on the weekend vs Ospreys, and DTH van der Merwe.

A total of seven Canadian players were not included in the squad due to reasons of work, school, injury and suspension. This will certainly open the door to other players and give them a great opportunity to show their worth ahead of next years Rugby World Cup. Those unavaliable are Ed Fairhurst, Stan McKeen, Conor Trainor (all school / work), Nanyak Dala, Luke Tait, Phil Mack (all injury) and Jamie Cudmore (suspension).
