In the lattest round of the Magners League, the Glasgow Warriors hosted Munster at Firhill in what was a high scoring match with Munster winning 43-29. Glasgow again fielded a back three featuring two Argentine internationals (Bernardo Stortoni and Federico Martín Aramburu) and a Canadian (DTH van der Merwe). The Canadian had another strong showing as he scored his teams first try after Stortoni knocked down a cross-field kick from flyhalf Duncan Weir. The try had Glasgow winning 10-0 but in the end they were overpowered by the Irish side.
The two former Pumas internationals playing in the back three with DTH van der Merwe are both no longer in the sights of the Argentine coaching staff but both players are doing well for themselves for Glasgow - a team packed with Scottish internationals. It is a testament to the depth of Argentine rugby to have players like Stortoni and Aramburu doing well for a top celtic side. It also highlights the potential of Argentina as a Rugby World Cup host in that the number of top players being produced by the country continues to grow and this takes Argentine rugby to the world in increased numbers. Canadians should support a Rugby World Cup in Argentina. It would benefit Canada and the Americas as a whole. DTH van der Merwe´s success in Scotland will only do good things for Canadian rugby by showcasing a Canadian test international doing well against Irish, Italian, Scottish and Welsh wingers in the Magners League.
There was also a fourth player from the Americas playing as Canadian prop Kevin Tkachuk was on the bench. He alongside DTH van der Merwe should be selected in Canada´s squad for New Zealand 2011.
