Argentina win 2010 CONSUR South American Under 19 Championship

The Confederation of South American Rugby(CONSUR)have announced the results of the 2010 South American Under 19 Championship on their website. The tournament was held by Argentina in the city of Santiago del Estero which is the home of Pumas and Stade Français backrower, Juan Leguizamón.

The Pumitas (Argentina under 19) defeated Chile 101-0 on Saturday to be the only undefeated side and thus be crowned CONSUR Under 19 Champions. The results were similar to those of the senior mens teams with Argentina clearly well ahead of the rest and Uruguay and Chile coming in second and third. Uruguay not only finished second but were much better vs Argentina than Chile were and also recorded a very solid win vs the Chileans to suggest there is a bit of a gap in South America between second and third.

There was a clear change in the South American rankings for fourth place with Paraguay defeating Brazil 27-15 which is something the national mens side have been unable to do in recent years. Brazil, nevertheless did well for a country that has superior rugby at the senior level than the junior. With time they will improve at the age level.
