Louis Stanfill - USA Player in Australia
USA Eagles backrower, Louis Stanfill is one of the most promising players from the United States. He is 25 years of age but amazingly made his test debut in 2005 as a 19 year old vs Canada. He is capable of playing in the back-row at 6 or 8 as well as in the second row if need be as his height is 1.91m Since debuting vs Canada back in 2005, Stanfill has been a regular in the USA Eagles team. He has played 19 tests thus far including all four at Rugby World Cup 2007 where he started all games in the number 6 shirt and scored tries vs Samoa and Tonga. He did so aged only 22 and formed a great 6-7 combination with Todd Clever. The pair are certain to continue to be the USA´s flankers for quite some time yet. They will recieve plenty of media attention come Rugby World Cup 2011 where they are guaranteed to maintian their spots in the team.
Stanfill was born in Sacramento, California but made a name for himself by playing rugby for New York Athletic Club and UC Berkeley in California. Today, however, he no longer plays in the United States. Rather, Stanfill plays in Australia for the Canberra Royals Rugby Football Club in the ACTRU Premier Division. The ACTRU Premier Division is the governing body of the region covering the Australia Capital Territory (ACT) and the Southern NSW Rugby Union. The region is home to the Brumbies who play as one of what will be 5 Australian sides in the Super 15 in 2011. Stanfill could well be in line for a place in the Brumbies side. He is, without question a better player than a number of players in his position at the Brumbies as well as in all Australian Super Rugby teams.
