Famous Faces Abroad - USA Players in the Pro d2
In addition to the three USA players in this seasons Top 14 there will also be two important Eagles players playing in the pro d2 (second division in France) for Sporting club albigeois, or simply Albi. Second-rower, John van der Giessen has played 13 tests for the USA since making his debut in 2008. He only started playing rugby in 2001. van de Giessen captained University of Idaho Rugby from 2004-2005 and played professionally in New Zealand for Hawkes Bay in 2006. Despite being new to rugby, he was called into the USA squad for Rugby World Cup 2007 after veteran Luke Gross was injured.
John van der Giessen will be joined again this season by USA Eagles prop, Matekitonga Moeakiola. Like Zee Ngwenya, Moeakiola, made his test debut vs England at Lens in Rugby World Cup 2007. he has played 18 tests for the USA Eagles. Before joining Albi he played in Utah for Park City Haggis. Both van der Gliessen and Moeakiola will be playing their second season for the club having arrived last season to play for Albi in the Top 14. Both are important players for the USA and are certanties to make the cut for New Zealand 2011.
The Pro d2 starts next weekend with all 16 teams competiting.
