Rugby World Cup 2007 - Argentina vs South Africa

Rugby World Cup 2003 Champions, England defeated 14-9 France in the first Semi-Final of France 2007 and would play the winner of the second Semi-Final which was played the following day between 1995 World Champions South Africa and Argentina.

Los Pumas had reached the semi-finals after defeating Ireland and Scotland in consecutive matches. South Africa, in contrast had had a much easier route with a Quarter-Final vs Fiji the previous week and matches vs the USA and Tonga before that.

Despite having the better of play in the match, Argentina were defeated 37-13 by the Springboks. Reports suggest that Argentina played poorly and may have been tired following a tough set of matches preceeding the semi-final. Others suggested that Argentina changed their game plan for the Semi-Final.

Regardless of whether or not any of this was or was not the case something else was far more important in the outcome of this match - interceptions. South Africa scored three intercept tries. In fact, not one of South Africa´s four tries were scored from a position with the try line in sight. The Springboks pounced on Argentine errors to secure their place in the final vs England.
