Famous Faces Abroad - USA Players in the Top 14

The most famous USA player today, Takudzwa Ngwenya, will be playing his third season for south-western France powerhouses, Biarritz Olympique. His amazing try vs South Africa at Rugby World Cup 2007 lives on as the greatest try from the tournament but has since found some friends as Ngwenya continues to terrorize defences and score tries against the best wingers in the world. His try vs Osprey´s in the 2010 Heineken Cup quarter-final was amazing. Soon to turn 25, Zee Ngwenya is sure to be as fast as ever this season and will be a key player for both Biarritz and the USA Eagles. He made his test debut at France 2007 vs England and played in all 4 of the USA´s matches. In addition to famously ´leaving Bryan Habana for Dead´, Ngwenya also scored a brilliant try vs Samoa. He has played 15 tests so far and is certain to be selected at 14 for the USA Eagles at next years Rugby World Cup. Biarritz will be wanting to see more magic from him in their quest to win the Top 14 and the Heineken Cup.

USA centre, Charles Salesi Sika will be playing his third season for Castres Olympique after previously having played for AS Béziers Hérault from 2006-2008. Sika made his test debut vs Fiji at Rugby World Cup 2003 and has played 22 tests so far, including 7 at Rugby World Cup´s, for the USA Eagles. His most recent test appearance was vs Canada in July 2009. Sika has since been overlooked in preference of younger players to give the USA a faster backline. Nevertheless, Sika should certainly make the USA squad for Rugby World Cup 2011. His form will determine whether he can be recalled into the starting XV or not.

USA Sevens rugby captain, Kevin Swiryn has signed his first professional rugby contract to play for Sporting union Agen Lot-et-Garonne, or commonly known simply as Agen this season. He will be joining Agen from Old Puget South Beach Rugby Club in Seattle, Washington. Swiryn debuted for the USA Eagles in 2009 vs Ireland and played in all 6 of the USA´s tests that year. He stared for the USA in the teams Rugby World Cup 2011 qualifying matches vs Canada and Uruguay, scoring 3 tries in 4 matches. Swiryn is certain to be selected for New Zealand 2011 so it is utterly fantastic for rugby fans that he has been signed to play in the Top 14 as it will make him a better player.

  1. Nobody can stop Ngwenya. That try past Shane Williams was a peach.
